Heat rout the Sixers tonight 106-83, as they put on their most impressive display all season. Onto the game notes:
- Dwyane Wade picked up his first foul in the third quarter tonight. Pleasant change tonight, as the last few games Wade has picked up 2 early fouls and has subsequently had to sit on the bench.
- Mario Chalmers is damn fun to watch. 9 steals tonight. Yes, 9. That breaks the Heat all-time record for steals in a single game. The defense this season has been much improved, and he’s as big a reason as any.
- Basketball Prospectus predicted before the season that the Heat would shatter the record for defensive rebound percentage (set by the Spurs last year at 78 %) this year, and they showed a step in that direction with 22 rebounds combined from Michael Beasley, Shawn Marion and Dwyane Wade.
- This offense needs to find a mediator for the times when Wade requests a break. Any time Wade sat on the bench today, the Sixers closed the gap, as the Heat offense became stagnant. Some one (Marion? Beasley perhaps?) needs to take over when Wade sits.
- No offense, but we would have no problem if the Heat sat Chris Quinn on the bench for the remainder of the season ‘Stephon Marbury Style’. Seriously. What business does he have getting minutes on a team that includes Mario Chalmers, Dwyane Wade, and Marcus Banks, and Daequan Cook?
- The nightly Dwyane Wade boxscore that never ceases to amaze: 29 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals, 3 blocks. Good lord..
- We leave you with this exchange from Heat announcers Eric Reid and Tony Fiorentino:
Reid: And congratulations to Barrack Obama, the next president of the United States; and what a histortic night for this country last night.
Fiorentino: You’re absolutey right Eric. But I have one problem with Barrack; he’s a lefty and when he goes for the left handed layup he always jumps off the left food first. If I ever meet him, I’ll teach him that you have to jump off the right foot first
Reid: He does favor the left wing, though.
