This here, is the Florida Marlins catcher. His name is John Baker, and he has a dream. He has always wanted to be on the cover a fitness magazine. Last Saturday when the Fish played the Phillies on the Fox Saturday Game of the Week, Luis Gonzalez introduced him as John “I want to be on the cover of a fitness magazine” Baker.
Now, here’s where the story takes a comedic right turn. His Marlins teammates convinced him that he was going to be on the cover of a fitness magazine and even went so far as to bring in a photographer and the whole nine yards. This from the Miami Herald:
‘The first thing the guy says to me is, `Can you take your shirt off?’ ” Baker said. ‘I was like, `Oh, jeez.’ ”
He got the shot. And Baker’s teammates struck hoax gold.
The shirtless photo turned up on the cover of a phony magazine, and let’s just say the subject had nothing to do with fitness, or even baseball.
”I’ve got it at home in a frame,” Baker said. “It’s pretty funny.”
And that my friends, is why this is the coolest team in baseball. Also, inside sources tell me the phony magazine was of a homosexual ilk. One that could not be published in a professional newspaper like the Herald
ok I admit it! I got the idea from the magazine that I subscribe to. As Tommy Hutton and I were reading my magazine subscription in the clubhouse shower, I asked tommy if he thought it be a good idea to trick Baker into that. By the way I am hoping to get Brady Quinn with the same trick.
