Sometimes, you just run into a great pitcher with a career ERA of 7.14. Dutchmen, and more importantly Marlins pitcher, Rick VandenHurk turned in a great performance tonight going 5 innings allowing 0 (ZERO!) hits and striking out 7 to get the win for the Fish, 4-0. The turning point in the game came in the 3rd, when the Braves had bases-loaded no outs against the Dutchmen and the Incredible Hurk got of the jam by striking out Jeff Francoeur and Kelly Johnson before getting former Marlins outfielder Mark Kotsay to pop up. Hurk never looked back after that, coasting through the next 3 innings.
First basemen Mike Jacobs hit the go-ahead and soon to be, game winning 3 run home run in the 4th inning. The funny thing about Jacobs is that the dude just doesn’t get on base. His on-base percentage this year is a horrendous .282, which is even worse than say, Alfredo Amezaga. He does have some pop in his bat, as his 20 home runs this year show, but unless he learns to stop swinging at bad pitches he won’t be starting for much longer. The rubber match of the series with the Braves is set for tomorrow night, with a tremendous pitching matchup of Ricky Nolasco and Tim Hudson.
